Ever since I was a kid, I have dealt with acne, and it was never clear to me as to what exactly was causing it. I have always wanted to know what caused my acne because I thought if I could figure it out then I would be able to stop it before I ever had another breakout.
To my disappointment, I was unable to figure it out as a kid, but I always had hope that as I got older my acne would clear up on its own. Unfortunately that didn’t happen either, and I now suffer from acne which shows up on my face sporadically, mainly on my chin and forehead.
As you can see in the photo, I have a little bit of visible acne, but what you may not see is the acne that is forming underneath the skin. There is even a visible bump on my forehead where it is forming. Some days are worse than others, and I am lucky that right now there is minimal acne that is visible, but I know what is brewing underneath.
Thankfully I have been able to pinpoint a few factors that seem to make my breakouts more common, and with these changes to my daily routine I have been able to maintain healthier skin.
I have found that when I stick to my new routine, I am able to prevent future breakouts. All of these simple changes can make a big difference when battling acne.
Steam your Skin- Boil water in a pot and remove from heat. Using a towel wrapped around your head to help prevent moisture from escaping, lean over the steaming water and allow it to cover your face. This is a great way to purge your skin of any dirt or oils left behind after regular cleaning.
Heated towels- Dampen a towel with a little water and then pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Place the towel on your face, and let the heat open your pores and follow this up with a good deep cleaning of your skin.
Be Careful with Makeup- Makeup has been known to clog pores, harbor bacteria, and cause unsightly blemishes on my face. A lot of people use makeup to cover up their acne, but that can be counterproductive because if you are covering up the problem with something that is causing the problem, it will be a never ending cycle of acne. Try going a couple of weeks without using makeup to let your skin breathe or be more selective when picking out the type you are using daily.
Clean Your Smart Phone- Our smart phones go everywhere with us and seem to touch everything we do, although we hardly ever think to wash them regularly like we do our hands. Think of all of the bacteria that your phone is harboring and give it a good cleaning a couple of times a week to prevent the spread of acne causing bacteria.
Use Napkins- While the jury is still out on certain foods causing acne, it is pretty obvious that when you are eating messy foods they will ultimately drip onto your skin. Keeping a napkin handy while eating is a good idea for removing any food messes that you may have on your face that could ultimately cause acne.
Acne Treatment- Finally a product that is prescription strength but can be obtained over the counter for clearing and preventing acne. I have literally been waiting my whole life for Differin® Gel; this is the newest advancement and ingredient in the OTC acne category in over 30 years. Although it is new to the over the counter aisle, it has a long-standing heritage as a proven acne treatment.
Differin® Gel contains the only multi-benefit dermatologist recommended retinoid, Adapalene, that is now available without a prescription and will help clear and prevent acne!
Shop at Walmart- Obviously the shopping at Walmart part isn’t going to help you avoid acne but you are able to pick up Differin® Gel while there in the beauty section.
Prevention- Prevent breakouts before they ever even begin, and as a result, restoring skin’s texture and tone. Use Differin® Gel to clear your breakouts where they start, all the way deep down inside those pores.
Exclusive Treatment- I have committed to Differin® Gel. Please use caution when using Differin® Gel with more than one acne treatment or glycolic acid product because this could lead to irritation.
Differin® Gel is not a spot treatment. Applying a thin layer all over your face daily is the best way to get the full benefits from this acne treatment.
Moisturizing- Not all acne problems are alike, and some people struggle with dry skin while also being plagued with acne. A great moisturizer to incorporate is Differin® Balancing Moisturizer to relieve dryness.
Commitment- Just because your skin is clearing up after using the Differin® Gel that does not mean you should stop using the product. It can help prevent future acne breakouts for those suffering from mild to moderate acne.
Clean Makeup Brushes- Just like our makeup, the brushes are harboring bacteria and can cause that same bacteria to be applied to your face every time you apply your makeup.
Don’t Touch Your Face- Try to avoid touching your face whenever possible. Your hands are touching so many different things throughout the day that you are bound to carry germs over to your skin which may cause acne breakouts.
Remove Makeup Before Bed- Always wash your makeup off at the end of the day before heading to bed. This is a great time to give your pores a break from all of the oils and acne causing ingredients that you may find in some makeups.
Drink Plenty of Water- Drinking water flushes your body of toxins and that includes helping your body rid itself of acne causing impurities, as well.
Don’t let acne continue to take over your life, pick up a tube of Differin® Gel at Walmart and try these tips to help prevent future acne breakouts!
