My husband Mike and I have been together for 15 years and throughout that time we have learned a lot about each other. He knows my life story and I know his but occasionally something makes us think of memories that were once forgotten and at those times I love to share what I remember or hear what he has to say.

Mike and Melissa

I recently remembered something and the memory was triggered while pouring my daughter a bowl of cereal. When I was her age I spent the Summer with my grandfather in Virginia and sometimes I recall a moment here and there that brings me back to those days for just a second.

I clearly remember sitting at Pop’s kitchen table eating a bowl of Cheerios™ with freshly sliced bananas on top. I watched my grandfather slice them into our cereal bowls that morning and knew I had never seen anyone slice a banana quite like that before so it caught my attention. He laid the banana in the palm of his hand peeled off the top layer of the fruit while leaving the rest of the peel on. He grabbed a knife and began slicing little banana circles that fell right out of his palm into our bowls. It seemed like a magic trick and every time I poured a bowl of cereal after that, I always asked for a topping of bananas so I could see his little trick.

Now that I am older and live even farther away than I did in those days from him, a memory like that is celebrated and I get excited to share my new story with my husband. Now that I have that memory back, every time I pour a bowl of cereal from now on, or see a banana for that matter, I will think of him and his magic.

When I purchased one box of Cheerios™ I found a code inside that allowed me to send my grandfather a box as well. When you purchase the specially marked box of Cheerios™ at Walmart you receive a code inside. Then you can enter the code and fill out an E-card online for a friend to open and receive a coupon for a free box of  Cheerios™ at your local Walmart.

I picked up the Apple Cinnamon flavor and created a delicious snack that incorporates both items that trigger my previously forgotten memory. These chocolate covered banana pops are so creamy inside it feels like you are eating ice cream!

Start off by peeling the bananas, cutting them in half and sticking skewers or popsicle sticks into the middle. Freeze for about an hour. I placed the bananas on a freezer paper lined baking sheet before popping them into the freezer. This prevented them from sticking or forming any kind of unwanted freezer icicles.
