Learning how to make your own almond milk is almost a necessity when you are on a strict diet that does not allow dairy milk or added sugar.

Even if you are just trying to eat whole foods with little processing or are starting to notice the long list of ingredients on labels and have decided to avoid adding those toxic artificial ingredients to your diet when possible.

Learning How to Make Almond Milk keto-friendly is a great skill even for those of us who may not be on a health kick or really care about the ingredients we put into our bodies.

You really get a sense of accomplishment once you have successfully created your own milk. I imagine that’s how farmers feel when milking their cows or chicken farmers feel when they gather their eggs each morning. It’s kind of like gardening, there is a strong sense of pride that comes with growing and creating your own foods.

This is especially true when you are creating something that isn’t readily available. Homemade foods made from the ingredients you have hand-selected always taste best in my opinion.

Making almond milk for the ketogenic diet is one of your best options since grocery stores carry a wide variety of milk substitutes, it can be confusing to find a great alternative.

When I realized how easy it was to make recipes from different nuts, I began experimenting with them and at some point decided to learn how to make almond milk. Lucky for me, I do not have a nut allergy and I can freely experiment with different types of recipes.

How Many Grams of Carbs Are in a Cup of Almond Milk?

Keto dieters can expect about 1.4 grams of carbs per serving size which is one cup of Almond Milk. This keto-friendly alternative is a good choice for those counting net carbs because it contains less than 1 gram of net carbs. That is much better than regular milk and it’s nice to have a keto-friendly alternative for pouring into coffee or making protein shakes when counting grams of net carbs.

Cow’s milk comes in at about 12 grams of carbohydrates for one cup of whole milk which is unacceptable for those counting their carb intake.

Plus, cow’s milk contains lactose which is a naturally occurring sugar.

If you are watching your carb intake or just want a healthy homemade alternative to storebought varieties, this is the recipe for you.

When making almond milk keto-friendly, you control what goes into your recipe. There is no need to add a bunch of artificial ingredients or flavorings, this recipe is delicious just the way it is and healthy too!

Uses for Almond Milk on a Keto Diet

There are many keto recipes that call for almond milk and this recipe would be the perfect way to get started creating keto-friendly meals that require this ingredient.

I like to add almond milk to my coffee and it is great for drinking alongside keto cookies. Some of my favorite keto cookies are these Soft & Easy Keto Snickerdoodles.

These cookies are delicious paired with a glass of this homemade almond milk.

I also love to dunk these Low Carb Chocolate Chip Cookies and wash this Keto Lemon Cake down with a glass.

You can also make creams for soups, mix with cheeses to create a creamy sauce for nachos, and so many more keto recipes

Who says you can’t enjoy dessert on a low-carb diet?

How to Make Almond Milk Keto Friendly

Soak 1 cup of almonds overnight in a bowl of water. Add enough water to the bowl to cover the almonds but there is no perfect amount for this step in the process, it kind of depends on what size bowl you are using.

Drain the almonds and rinse them once they are finished soaking.

Add the cleaned and drained almonds to a blender as well as 2 cups of water. Blend at high speed for about 3-5 minutes using the pulse function to drop the almonds down if they are sticking and jumping up in the blender.

It can be hard to make contact when you have a high-powered blender strong enough to break down the almonds so stopping here and there to allow the almonds to settle is a good idea.

The liquid should start to look like milk or a translucent shade of white, this is where you will start to believe it is possible for you to learn how to make almond milk.

It can be easy to intimidate by the idea of making your own homemade almond milk but once you make this recipe, you will see how easy it really can be to make your own.

The next step is to remove the almonds from the blender and strain the almond pulp with a cheesecloth over a container to collect the liquid.

Then, squeeze the cheesecloth to get all of the milk out.almond milk keto friendly

Health Benefits of Making Almond Milk Keto Friendly

Almond milk is fortified with vitamin D as well as vitamin E and provides healthy fats including fatty acids such as oleic acid. This is a good way to increase your healthy fat content.

When creating this recipe with the health benefits in mind, it may be a good idea to use organic almonds. I find that using organic almonds can change the texture slightly to a more creamy texture, although I enjoy making this recipe with a variety of almonds. I have made a similar recipe for cashew milk but I am still working on that one.

Variations for this Low Carb Almond Milk Recipe

Add a dash of vanilla extract or mix with heavy cream for a taste similar to traditional dairy products.

Sweeten with honey if you prefer a sweeter almond milk flavor.

If you are replacing oat milk, hemp milk, or unsweetened soy milk to better fit into a keto diet, I would suggest not adding anything. Although you can use a Keto-friendly sweetener to enhance the flavor while keeping this almond milk keto.

If you are craving chocolate milk, add a little bit of your favorite keto sweetener and a little bit of cocoa powder to make chocolate almond milk.

How Do You Store this Almond Milk?

I find it easy to store the Almond Milk in these milk jugs, plus they look so cool in my refrigerator. You can use any kind of sealed container to store your almond milk but I like to use glass or porcelain containers best.

I fell in love with a ceramic milk jug that I picked up from an Amish store in Kalona, Iowa. I found a similar one on amazon that would work just as well for storing almond milk. This is a bit smaller so it won’t hold a lot of milk but if you decide to double or even triple this recipe, you can use these jugs to store plenty of almond milk.

The best part about using smaller containers is that you can leave the rest sealed until you are ready to use them.
