SCD Friendly Meatballs (Gluten Free)

These SCD Meatballs are perfect for those who are eating gluten-free or following a low-carb diet. Plus, this recipe can easily be altered to suit your dietary needs or taste buds while not sacrificing flavor.

Even those who are not following a special diet will love these delicious meatballs. No breadcrumbs are needed to create a flavorful meatball that pairs perfectly with pasta, makes a great pizza topping, or is the main ingredient in a meatball sub.

No matter how you plan to serve these delicious meatballs, you will be happy with this easy-to-follow recipe.

When cooking for my whole family, I try to incorporate my SCD diet as much as possible. It’s way healthier than the processed foods they normally eat but sometimes you have to compromise flavor. So I am on a mission to make every meal my family loves the SCD way and that means it must taste good too!

SCD Meatballs

I serve mine with zucchini noodles but my family gets the traditional pasta.

My family loved these SCD-friendly meatballs and I know you will too. This is the perfect way to serve meatballs for guests with allergies to traditional foods. Whether your guests only eat gluten-free or follow a low-carb diet, these SCD Meatballs are perfect!

No need to make a second meal to meet everyone’s dietary needs!

Italian Style Venison Meatballs

What You’ll Need to Make SCD Meatballs

  • 1lb. Ground Beef or Ground Turkey or Ground Venison – Use whichever meat you prefer for this recipe, I have tried several different kinds of meats with great success. I have yet to try chicken but plan on updating once I do.
  • 1 egg – I usually use a jumbo egg but a large one will work if that’s all you have on hand.
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder- For SCD it is best to make your own garlic powder or get a letter from the company to confirm that there are no illegal ingredients in the package not listed on the ingredients label.
  • 1/2 teaspoon parsley- This is best fresh if you have the ability to grow your own parsley otherwise pick some up in the produce section to avoid any fillers in a packaged variety.
  • 1 teaspoon pepper- I use black pepper when making this meatball recipe.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt- PLain table salt (Iodized Salt) is what I typically use when making this recipe.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese- Fresh grated is best as many store-bought pre-packaged versions contain illegal ingredients.
  • 1 cup Almond Flour- Finely ground works best for rolling meatballs.
  • 1/2 cup peanut oil for frying- This is my preferred oil but I have made this recipe using other oils with good results.

How to Make SCD-Friendly Meatballs

These SCD-friendly meatballs are so easy to whip up that you may want to add them into the weekly rotation after giving them a try.

You may even want to double this batch and freeze some for next time. This way a simple snack or appetizer is just a few hours of thawing away.

This recipe comes together in a few simple steps.

In a large bowl mix the meat with an egg until completely coated and gooey. I use my hands for this step because a spoon just doesn’t seem to do the job.

Once it is completely coated, add in the rest of the ingredients except vegetable oil and mix. Make sure you are not just coating the outside of the meat, be sure it is entirely coated with the mix.

Wholesome Organic Meals

Pour the oil into a frying pan and heat at a medium to high temperature. While waiting for the oil to get hot, form your meatballs into ping pong-sized balls.

It is better to have smaller meatballs to ensure they are heated all the way through. Plus they seem to stay in this shape better for me.  Once the oil is hot, add your meatballs to the pan.

Cook until brown on the sides touching the oil then turn every 10 minutes or so to cook every side evenly. The entire process usually takes about an hour for me.

Once the meatballs are thoroughly cooked I like to add my sauce and let them marinate so the sauce picks up the meaty flavor. Plus if they get messy, you have an instant meat sauce!

Garlic and onion powders are not SCD legal unless you make them yourself

I love the flavors that garlic and onion powders give to my Italian dishes so I always have some on hand. It's very easy to make them homemade with a dehydrator.

This recipe can be used with Turkey, beef, or deer. I have tried all of them and honestly don't taste a difference.
