St. Patrick’s Day will always remind me of the parades I would attend in South Amboy New Jersey, where I grew up. I could just walk out my front door and be right in the center of the celebration. It seemed at the time like everyone in the entire state of New Jersey was there and they were all celebrating the same way, by drinking green beer.
Other than a few years back when a whale washed up on the shore in South Amboy, they were known for holding the record of the most bars per square mile. Drinking heavily was a normal St. Patrick’s Day tradition in this town with so many bars and I had no idea what this day was actually celebrated for until I grew up.
I want my daughter to grow up with the correct knowledge and not necessarily associate the holiday with excessive drinking. I’m happy to take part in a green beer or two but I want to give my daughter the real story of this holiday so every year we add another book to our collection. These are some of our favorite St. Patrick’s Day Books for Kids.
