Trash to Treasure Patriotic Patio Set Makeover

This Trash to Treasure makeover is brought to you through a partnership with Wayfair. This sponsorship in no way influences my opinion of Wayfair and as usual, all opinions are my own.

I am always on the hunt for a good deal and when I stumbled upon a patio set in the garbage, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn this trash to treasure.

I love a good deal and there isn’t a better deal than free. Well, there was that one time when my husband was an appliance delivery guy, he was delivering a brand new television to a guy that paid him $20 to remove the old one.

It turned out that there wasn’t anything wrong with the old one so he brought it home and used it for years before upgrading ourselves. We ended up selling it on Craigslist for $50, so there really are better deals than free out there, you just have to find them.

I really liked the slingback style chair, I think they are more comfortable than the traditional patio chairs. Since I was rescuing this set from the trash and turning it into a treasure for my favorite veteran, I knew the comfort level would be appreciated.

When planning the color scheme I knew I wanted it to be patriotic and since he has four cars in his driveway that are all red, that was the color I went with for the chairs.

I started this project by taping off the arms on the chairs and the white trim on the slingbacks.

Even though my plans included giving the trim a fresh new coat of white paint, I knew that the overspray would make it really hard to do it so I made sure to tape along the entire side.

I had a lot of masking tape with no real plans so I just used it to cover the areas that I didn’t want to get overspray on and it worked great.

Once I was finished with the chairs, I painted the table white and the legs blue. I switched to acrylic paints and brushes, then painted an American flag on the tabletop.

Bob served time in Vietnam and although he doesn’t talk about it much or wear the memorabilia to show it off like a lot of veterans seem to do, I always remember.

While I know it can be hard for some vets to talk about their time overseas, Bob was kind enough to share his story with me in a post that you can see by clicking here. I loved hearing his first-hand account of the things that happened and I am proud to be friends with such an awesome guy who made a huge sacrifice for our country.

I am really happy with how it turned out and even happier that Bob seemed to like it. He is always creating something from nothing, he loves turning trash to treasure and he is so good at it!

He has been working on a treehouse for the little kids and he was happy to have this patio set for one of the levels.

They even ate breakfast in the treehouse while sitting in this patriotic patio set.

Have you been working on any Trash to Treasure transformations? I would love to hear all about them!
