Turn your house into the family home you’ve always wanted!
When we think of updating our homes, we think about color schemes and wallpaper, lighting and kitchen units, but what about the outside of your home? It’s all very well and good having a garden – which is great for the kids to play in, but does your home lack curb appeal?
Does your property look the way you want it to? Whether you’re looking to sell, or just want to give your home a spring refresh, these simple curb appeal ideas will go a long way.
The first steps on the road to curb appeal would be to make your home noticeable – and no, I don’t mean by painting it pink! Something simple like a new house number, to proudly display on your door, or the entrance to your property. Take a look for some more signage ideas.
Your front door
A very basic but excellent tip, would be to paint your tired, old front door. The entrance to your property gets a lot of abuse! So, it’s no wonder that it can look worn and dingy. Finding the right kind of hardwearing paint shouldn’t be too difficult at a local hardware or DIY shop. A brightly colored door is a great way to draw attention to your house and make it feel modern and inviting and the hardest part? Choosing the color!
And don’t forget to accessorize! Why not update your door a little more with a stylish door knocker? Whether it’s something a little bit different or something perfectly traditional, there’s always plenty to choose from online or at a DIY/hardware shop.
The lighting in our homes is of the utmost importance, so why should the exterior be any different? Never underestimate the importance of good lighting. So consider installing some porch lights. One on either side of the door would do, or if you already have some – consider upcycling them or just giving them a clean or a fresh lick of paint.
Having good lighting outside your property is also a great security feature.
Beautiful flowers, or bright green planters are a stunning touch to any front door or porchway. They add a splash of color, as well as giving off the impression that the home inside is well cared for! If you have a narrow porchway, consider a well placed hanging basket – just don’t forget to water them!
Revamp your welcome mat
Arriving at a home with a frayed, old and dirty welcome mat doesn’t exactly create positive images for the inside of the property. If your welcome mat is looking a little worse for wear and has seen better days, then simply replace it.
Pressure wash – everything!
If all else fails, then a good clean usually does the trick. You won’t believe the difference that a power wash can have on brick and tile. Especially if you’ve never had it done before! I bet you didn’t know there was color between the tiles or bricks in your porch!
