When I was a little kid all I wanted to do was go to the zoo. My favorite zoo to visit was the Bronx Zoo in New York. I loved the Baboon Reserve and the African Wild Dogs. Visiting these animals was my favorite way to spend the day. I always imagined I would work with animals someday and that I would be a veterinarian or zoologist when I grew up.
I actually did end up working as a vet tech for 3 years and spent most of my time at animal shelters and volunteering to help with animals. I think my trips to the zoo and learning about animals as a kid had everything to do with my life long love with animals.
Zooology for Kids is an important book that will teach your child about understanding and working with animals. Foreword by the stars of Wild Kratts, The Kratt Brothers. My daughter was thrilled to see the Kratt brothers faces in her book, she is a big fan of Wild Kratts.
Not only is Zooology for kids packed full of great animal facts and information but it is also loaded with 21 kids activities. Your child will love the bright and beautifully detailed pictures throughout the book.
One of my favorite activities that I enjoyed the most in has to be the Bake an Edible Animal Cell experiment. The best part is when we were done experimenting, our model was a yummy treat to share while checking out the next activity.
My daughter loved the demonstration of a Butterfly’s Life Cycle. Just by using a paper plate, a pencil, paper, scissors, a ruler, markers, and a paper fastener we were able to create a Metamorphosis Wheel.
Although I like to think of myself as an expert in animals, I learned a lot reading this book with my daughter. I also learned that she knows a lot about animals too. It looks like she may be a future zoologist and the interest she took with this book makes me feel like she made the right career choice already.
