Variations & Substitutions

I use ground beef but you can use ground turkey, venison, or even ground chicken. Instead of beef broth, you can use beef stock, or if you choose to use ground chicken add in chicken broth if you want to create a chicken taco soup.

Feel free to use your favorite homemade taco seasoning made up of a combination of garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder, or a packet of taco seasoning, both options are great.

Sprinkle in some ranch seasoning, or a squirt of lime juice for a different flavor. Bring up the heat by sprinkling in some black pepper, add in more green chilies, and a squirt of hot sauce, or pour some salsa verde into the low carb taco soup.

Taco Soup Topping Ideas

If you aren’t worried about increasing the carb count, feel free to add your favorite toppings. Add black beans, tortilla chips, fresh cilantro, green bell pepper, green onions, or red onion.

Sprinkle Mexican cheese on top Or add a dollop of sour cream to this simple taco soup recipe for an extra creamy cheese consistency.

Storage Tips for Leftover Soup

If you have made a large soup pot and need to store leftovers, preserve this meal in an airtight container.

This will help maintain the freshness and flavor of the Keto Taco Soup, ensuring a delightful dining experience when reheated.

Can I Make Keto Taco Soup in a CrockPot?

The best part about this recipe is that you can make it in under 20 minutes. There is no need to wait 3-4 hours for your favorite recipes to cook in the crock pot. However, if you want to make this recipe in the slow cooker you can brown the meat and onions then dump the remaining ingredients into a crock pot. Cook on low heat for about 6 hours before serving.

Can I Freeze Taco Soup?

Indeed, cook the soup according to the recipe card as usual and then allow it to cool to room temperature. You can put the soup in the fridge overnight to cool it down to freeze the next day. Transfer the soup to an air-tight container, several small bowls with lids or freezer bags.

Store the containers in the freezer for up to 3 months. Next, thaw the soup before reheating it on the stovetop or microwave. This works out perfectly for those making meal plans and want to make plenty of keto recipes ahead of time.
