Ever since I have moved to Iowa, grocery shopping and going out to eat have been an adventure. It’s hard to move to a new area that doesn’t have any of the foods you love but sometimes if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
This Easy Po Boy Steak Sandwich is so tasty that I don’t even miss the Po Boys we used to get in Illinois. It really is easy to make and can be made no matter where you are, even in Iowa.
What you will need:
6 Hoagie style buns, preferably the size of the steak you purchase.
6 Cube Steak
Mozzarella Cheese
Garlic
Garlic salt
Butter
Cajun Seasoning
Cook the Cube Steak in a frying pan at medium to high heat. Brown evenly on both sides and be sure to cook all the way through.
Depending on the thickness of the steaks it may be necessary to press a spatula down against the meat to ensure it cooks all the way through. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning and garlic salt on the meat, I use about a teaspoon of each total.
While the steaks are cooking, prepare the rolls and preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Butter the insides of the rolls and add a few shakes of garlic powder and garlic salt, about a teaspoon of each, total. Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are toasted. When you pull them out the butter will still be gooey, that doesn’t mean it needs more time, this is what you want to happen.
Leave the oven on and once the Po Boys are done add them to the rolls. Sprinkle the top of the beef with mozzarella cheese and put it back in the oven until the cheese has melted.
We love these sandwiches served with french fries and I like to dip mine in A1 Sauce. Enjoy!
