DIY Patriotic Hanging Sign from a Fence Picket

DIY Patriotic Hanging Sign

My husband and I have already been to hundreds of garage sales this year but there are a few that stand out in my memory as superior to the rest.

There was the sale that I picked up a console table for five bucks, the sale where we picked up a bunch of fishing poles for less than a dollar apiece, and then the sale where I picked up a bunch of fence pickets for five dollars.

When you hit up as many garage sales as we do each season, they all kind of run together so unless something really out of the ordinary happened, I can not seem to differentiate a specific sale, street, or even town that we have visited.

My husband has been known to make a scene on occasion so those sales stand out more than others, like the time that he got a great deal on tires just because the people wanted to see him stack them on top of his already big load on the back of his truck.

Every day is an adventure being married to him and I love seeing what is in store for us next.

He is always ready to help me with my projects so when I had an idea for this DIY Patriotic Hanging Sign, he got out the drill and helped me create.

Whenever we are at a sale and inspiration strikes, he is happy to help me determine if the random items I find will be able to create the final product I have in my mind.

He also helps me get the best deals possible, even talking people down on their prices to get the items for what I would be willing to pay.

Sometimes we stumble upon a deal that we both know cannot be passed up because the seller is happy to clear out their space so the items are priced just right.

The guy that sold us these fence pickets was a veteran who created a cool snowman out of his fence pickets and then sold the leftovers to me for my upcoming art projects.

I have made great use out of them so far, creating lots of decorative signs in my garden and my favorite is this Patriotic Hanging Sign.

It is so easy to make your own Patriotic Hanging Sign out of fence pickets, jute, burlap, and paint.

I started out by cutting the fence pickets into three separate sections and then painting them red, white, and blue.

The next step is to paint your sign with whatever text you decide you want your sign to say, I chose to have a personalized sign with a patriotic phrase.

The next step is to drill holes in each corner of the top and middle sign for hanging.

The bottom sign only requires two holes at the top to hang, so you can write more text on the bottom sign if needed.

The next step is to string jute through the holes for hanging your sign, make sure you tie a tight knot at each hole to secure each piece.

Once all of the fence pickets are tied securely together, hang two more pieces from the top for hanging.

The last step before hanging your DIY Patriotic Sign is to tie a bow with burlap and hang it on top for decorative purposes.

I love the way my DIY Patriotic Decorative Hanging Sign turned out and plan on making one for the front of my house, too.

Head over to Wayfair to pick up a few other Red, White, and Blue items to add a nice splash of patriotic color like this God Bless America birdhouse.

Decorating with patriotic colors is a great way to keep in mind how lucky we are to live in a free country inhabited by others who put their lives on the line to fight for our rights.

I am thankful to have been born into this country and I appreciate the sacrifices many people have made to ensure my rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

This is adorable and I'm copying you and making it. e have a bunch of pallets that I break apart and make things with. I really need to find a place to post them and will be coming back to check out your other crafts! My husband doesn't go picking with me but once I get the stuff home, he's all in fixing it up or making it into something.

I love this sign! I also love salvaging things like this from garage sales and farmer's markets - they are the best!

This sign is so fun! I love how fast and easy it is to make. I think if I made it, I would use a stars and stripes print ribbon for the bow to make it even more festive!
