Peanut Butter Pie
When it comes to making pies, it just doesn’t get any easier than this Peanut Butter Pie. There is no baking required and very little skill involved in the making, it is the easiest pie I have ever made and one of my favorites.
The first time I have ever even heard of Peanut Butter Pie was when I mentioned to my mother in law that I like peanut butter and she immediately insisted that as a peanut butter lover, I have to try this peanut butter pie.
My first thought was, peanut butter in a pie? That’s awesome! My second thought was what if I don’t like it, how am I going to pretend that I do?
I had just moved to Illinois and met my mother law for the first time, so I was worried about offending her if I didn’t enjoy her cooking. This may be due to a story my mom has always told me about when she met my grandmother, her mother in law, for the first time.
Keep in mind my grandmother is a little Italian women with a lot of spunk who may or may not have a few ties to the mafia. So picture this Jersey City, 1981 (That’s a Golden Girls reference in case you didn’t know, Sophia always reminded me of my grandmother.)
Anyway my mom goes over for dinner and since she was raised by a women who burns even a can of corn, she poured ketchup all over her spaghetti as she did with most meals her own mother cooked, to drown out the bad taste.
My grandmother was angry and offended thinking that my mom was suggesting that her food was terrible although she hadn’t even tried it yet. Once my mom explained the situation, all was well but I am sure it was extremely uncomfortable and thankfully my grandmother loved my mom like her own over the years but I didn’t know if I could handle that kind of conflict with my mother in law.
So when my mother in law handed me a piece of her peanut butter pie, I was practicing a positive reaction in my head as I grabbed a piece with my fork. I was telling her that it was really good before I ever actually tasted it and as I got the words out the flavor sunk in and I was blown away by the deliciousness of this pie.
I asked for the recipe and over the years I changed a few things, not because it needed it, this pie was great but I am a habitual perfectionist so I had to put my own spin on it.
All you will need to make this Peanut Butter Pie is a Pie Shell, Peanut Butter, Cream Cheese, Chocolate Syrup, Caramel Syrup, Whipped Topping, and vanilla.
Let the whipped topping soften in refrigerator before using it in this recipe, follow instructions on package for this step.
In a mixer or with a really strong arm mix the peanut butter, cream cheese, whipped topping together. After the mixture has blended together, add the vanilla extract then finish mixing ingredients.
Add filling to a pie shell and place in the refrigerator for about 3 hours or until it reaches the texture you would enjoy most. This pie is also great frozen!
Before serving add a mixture of chocolate and caramel syrup to the top of the pie. Don’t skip this step, it really takes the pie to the next level.
