What’s in Creamy Parmesan Tuscan Chicken

  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts – Tender and lean chicken breasts serve as the protein base for this hearty chicken dish, providing a satisfying and nutritious element to this meal full of Italian flavors. You can substitute the seasoned chicken breasts with seasoned chicken thighs or for a higher fat content, consider creating a Tuscan salmon dish.
  • Almond Flour – Almond flour adds a nutty and slightly sweet flavor while providing a low-carb alternative to traditional flour, making it perfect for coating the chicken in this recipe.
  • Garlic Powder – Enhance the savory profile of the dish with garlic powder, infusing each bite with this popular Italian seasoning known for its aromatic flavor, making this dish pop with a creamy garlic flavor.
  • Salt and Black Pepper – Season the dish to perfection with salt and a quarter teaspoon of black pepper, adjusting the amount according to your preference to elevate the flavors of the ingredients.
  • Olive Oil – Use olive oil for sautéing the chicken and vegetables, imparting a rich and fruity flavor while promoting heart-healthy fats.
  • Butter – Butter adds richness and creaminess to the sauce, enhancing its flavor and texture for a truly indulgent dining experience.
  • Cream Cheese – Cream cheese contributes to the velvety texture of the sauce, providing a creamy and luscious base for the dish.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – Create a decadent and creamy sauce with heavy cream, adding luxurious richness and mouthfeel to the dish.
  • Minced Garlic – Intensify the garlic flavor in the sauce with minced garlic, infusing it with aromatic and savory notes. Increase the garlic in this recipe for a bold creamy Tuscan garlic chicken flavor.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese –  Sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese into the Tuscan sauce for a salty and savory kick. This addition adds a depth of flavor that creates a creamy parmesan sauce to compliment the flavors of the tender chicken in this recipe.
  • Chicken Broth –  Chicken broth adds depth and complexity to the sauce, providing a savory and flavorful base for the dish.
  • Zucchinis – Zucchini adds freshness and texture to the dish, complementing the creamy sauce with its mild and slightly sweet flavor.
  • Bell Peppers – Bell peppers contribute vibrant color and crispness to the dish. Using one orange pepper and one red pepper proves to make a great dish but you can use whichever color peppers you prefer for your easy chicken recipes.

How to Make Parmesan Tuscan Chicken Recipe

Step 1: Prepare Vegetables

Prepare the vegetables by rinsing and dicing the bell peppers and chopping the zucchini into bite-sized chunks. Set them aside for later use.

Dicing and Chopping Vegetables.

Step 2: Prepare the Chicken Breasts

In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of almond flour with a teaspoon of garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Cut the chicken breasts into smaller, evenly-sized pieces, trimming any excess fat if needed. For even cooking, consider halving the chicken breasts lengthwise.

Roll each piece of chicken in the almond flour mixture until they are thoroughly coated, and then set them aside.

Step 3: Cook the Tuscan Chicken

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. You can use a cast iron skillet or a regular frying pan, either one works fine. Once the bottom of the pan is hot, add the breaded chicken pieces and cook them for about 5 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown.

Once cooked through, transfer the chicken to a plate and set it aside, allowing to come down to room temperature while working on the next step.

Step 4: Saute the Vegetables

Using the same skillet set to medium heat, add another tablespoon of olive oil if needed, and sauté the diced zucchini and bell peppers until they become tender.

Once cooked, remove them from the skillet and set them aside. They should have reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees when checked with a meat thermometer.

Step 5: Make the Creamy Sauce

In the same skillet over medium-high heat, add 6 tablespoons of butter, 8 ounces of cream cheese, 2 cups of heavy whipping cream, and 2 tablespoons of minced garlic.

Allow the mixture to simmer for approximately 5 minutes, stirring continuously until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined and the sauce starts to thicken.

Step 6: Perfecting the Sauce

While the sauce is cooking, slice the cooked chicken into strips. Once the sauce has reached a thick consistency that is able to coat the back of a wooden spoon, add 2 cups of Parmesan cheese to the skillet, stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 7: Combine & Serve

Return the sliced chicken and sautéed vegetables to the skillet on medium-low heat, stirring gently to coat them evenly with the creamy sauce. Allow everything to simmer together for a few more minutes until heated through.

Easy Add-In Ideas

These add-in ideas can help you to enhance this recipe or to create new recipes that your dinner guests will love, without adding a lot of extra cooking time.

This creamy Tuscan chicken recipe is great with the addition of sundried tomatoes or fresh cherry tomatoes. Most grocery stores offer either tangy sun-dried tomatoes or oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, both would work great in this parmesan cream sauce.

Add in fresh herbs to enhance the flavor profile with minimal effort, I suggest fresh parsley. Sprinkle in some red pepper, onion powder, or a little bit of white wine to enhance the flavor of the parmesan cheese sauce.

For a more hearty meal, add green beans, and fresh spinach such as baby spinach, or serve with pasta for a creamy Tuscan chicken pasta, perfect for a dinner party.
