Have You Heard of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Eating healthy and eating well are not terms that often go together. Ever since I have been on a super healthy super restricted diet I have learned the true meaning of when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.

I am on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet which is also known as SCD. At first, this diet was hard to follow because my diet mostly consisted of breads, sugars, processed food, and anything else that was a quick meal or bought in a package at the store.

Although this diet is extremely challenging at times, I know it plays a huge roll in my overall health. I was diagnosed with an Inflammatory Bowel Disease titled Ulcerative Colitis. It is similar to Crohns disease and most people have heard of Chrons rather than Colitis so I find it much easier to explain it that way. I can’t give much information on the disease itself because I just don’t believe most of what I have been told.

Specific Carbohydrate Diet

The truth is the doctors don’t really know much about it and all they can do is diagnose me, give me insane amounts of pills to take for the rest of my life that have some pretty scary side effects, or remove my colon when the medicines begin to fail, which they have proven to do over and over again.

Since being diagnosed I have talked with many people suffering from Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis who have had great success with the SCD lifestyle. It’s not just a diet that keeps you from eating anything with gluten, ice cream, milk, sugar, and all of the other goodies I have loved my whole life but it is a completely different lifestyle.  I have a hard time eating out because of the lack of options and the plethera of illegal ingredients in most foods.

Specifc Carbohydrate Diet

I can’t even order a salad without asking tons of questions to a clueless waiter who will most likely lie about what is really going on back there anyway.

I’m not complaining at all, I am thrilled that there is another option out there for a possible “cure”! That’s in quotations because the doctors say there is no cause and there is no cure for this disease. They refuse to believe diet plays any role and suggest I take handfuls of meds until I let them cut me open and remove my colon.

Even if I have my colon removed there are tons of things that can go wrong and even when things go right, I would have a pouch inside of me that has been known to collapse time and again.

If this diet has helped so many other people I just can’t wrap my head around why the doctors are so sure diet plays no role.

Specific Carbohydrate Diet

I tried the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for 5 months straight while taking my medicines and I had great success but after drinking too much wine, I caused myself to be in the worst flair up I ever had. I immediately quit the diet and tried the doctors recommendations. With some powerful medicines I was once again almost back to feeling well but there was one problem, I was still on all of the medicines and having terrible side effects.

So after a lot of binge eating terrible foods that I felt deprived of for the last 5 months, I felt, as expected, horrible again. I now have decided to commit to this diet again and stop taking the medicine they prescribed me.

Today it has been about 2 weeks that I have been on the diet again and I plan on posting all of the new and creative recipes I come up with. I don’t want to feel deprived and with a little thought and a lot of effort I plan on recreating all of my recipes to make them SCD Friendly and I hope you will try them out!

This diet is not just for people with Bowel Diseases, it’s great for many ailments and the recipes I have created can benefit your whole family. If you are looking to give your family better nutrition or maybe you want to lose some weight, the healthy way. This diet saves lives and it’s easier with help, try out some recipes & enjoy!
