I have always enjoyed a spicy chicken wing with a nice crispy edge but ever since we started eating low-carb, I have struggled to achieve that texture that I always seem to be craving. That was until I experimented with different methods of preparing the chicken wings.

How do you make Easy Keto Chicken Wings?

Each step in this chicken wing recipe has been through a lengthy, trial, and error process. While I have enjoyed every batch of keto wings that I have made, it’s hard to mess them up, it can be difficult to get that perfect texture without following ALL of the steps in the process. Check the recipe card below for full measurements and instructions on making the easiest keto chicken wings recipe.

So if you want your wings to come out exactly like my keto wings, you will have to do ALL of these steps in the process to replicate this Easy Keto Chicken Wings Recipe.

Everybody makes mistakes and you may find that some of the steps in this process are not always convenient for your weekly meal plan. I have been known to pull wings out in the morning and eat them for dinner that night, which means that I have skipped a very important step in this process that you will read about in a minute.

The point is, they were still delicious, even when the keto wings recipe didn’t come out as crispy as I wanted, it was still very good. So don’t let the process scare you, I’m sure your wings are going to come out perfect!

After thawing your chicken wings in water for 2 days, dry them off. Then coat them in the powder mixture, and allow them to sit in the refrigerator for 3 hours. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and place a wire rack inside to catch any drips.

Spray the wings with an olive oil spray before cooking in the oven. Cook in an oven preheated to 450 degrees then bake the wings for about 25 minutes. Be sure to flip them over, no need to baste them, just spray lightly with the olive oil spray again, and cook for another 25 minutes.

When the wings have finished cooking, prepare the glaze. Mix together completely and then dip wings into the sauce before serving. See how easy this baked keto chicken wings recipe is to make?

*Be sure that your wings reach the minimum safe internal temperature of 165°F

*Rotate the pan if necessary for your oven, you know best if your oven has hot spots that prevent an even cooking so use that knowledge accordingly.

What kind of Chicken Wings are best?

Back when I lived in Illinois, there was a place called Capers that we would frequent due to their amazing chicken wings.

Not only were they delicious but they were giant.

To this day, I have no idea where they got their wings or how they got so big and since the place closed down, there is no hope at this point of finding out.

I can tell you that those were some of the best wings I have ever had and although I do not have a supplier for the giant wings, I have been pretty lucky with several brands of the more traditional size of chicken wings.

For the value, I usually buy the Great Value brand, when in stock but I have also used Aldi’s chicken wings in the past with similar results.

Which is better, Fresh or Frozen?

Since I have been picking up the Great Value brand, I have perfected this recipe using frozen chicken wings.

They aren’t frozen when I cook them but they are indeed frozen when I buy them so that would be my recommendation when purchasing chicken wings.

I don’t understand why this would make a difference but when I tried making keto baked chicken wings with fresh butcher wings, they didn’t get quite as crispy and I like a crispy chicken wing.

How do You Thaw the Frozen Wings?

This is one of the most important parts of this keto chicken wing recipe because I think this has everything to do with how the texture of the finished product turns out.

Thaw the frozen chicken wings in an airtight container full of enough water to completely submerge all chicken wings for 2 days.

This applies to both varieties since the wings are cut into a flat and drumette.

After soaking for two days, remove the chicken wings from the water and place them on cooling racks.

Sprinkle the powdered seasoning on top and store it in the refrigerator for a few hours before preparing.

This will remove any excess water and improve the final texture of your chicken wings.

What’s the Best Sauce to Use for Keto Spicy Chicken Wings?

I have always been a big fan of the flavor of Louisiana hot sauce, it’s almost perfect.

The only downfall to this delicious hot sauce is that it is missing the thick texture that you typically get with a wing sauce.

So I have made a mixture of the two sauces to make the perfect keto chicken wings.

I use both the Franks RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce and the Louisianna Hot Sauce to make this delicious keto chicken wing sauce.

After thawing your chicken wings in water for 2 days, dry them off. Then coat them in the powder mixture, and allow them to sit in the refrigerator for 3 hours.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil to catch any drips and cook the chicken wings. Spray the wings with an olive oil spray. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and bake the wings for about 25 minutes.

Be sure to flip them over, spray lightly with the olive oil spray again, and cook for another 25 minutes.

When the wings have finished cooking, prepare the sauce by melting 2 tablespoons of butter 1/2 cup of Franks Red Hot Wing Sauce, and 1/2 Cup of Louisiana Hot Sauce.

Mix completely and then dip wings into the sauce before serving.

Are Wings Keto?

I have had quite a few people ask me if they can enjoy chicken wings on keto diet and questions like are hot wings keto?

Or Can you eat chicken wings on keto? I am always surprised by this question because most people know that meats are keto but something about eating a quick keto meal like these hot wings makes people feel that it is too good to be true.

Buffalo wings are deep-fried chicken wings slathered in a spicy, red, hot pepper sauce and served with celery sticks and ranch or blue cheese dressing.

I love the keto version of this traditional recipe, in my opinion, this simple recipe is better than regular buffalo wings. Perfect for a game-day party like the Super Bowl!

It is all about the keto wing sauces!

As long as you are using a keto buffalo sauce or using keto wing sauce recipes to make the chicken wings, then yes, chicken wings are keto!

If you were to head to a place like Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters, you may want to check the ingredients list before eating their wings.

The History of Buffalo Chicken Wings

I have always been interested in learning the origin of different foods I eat and things I enjoy.

When sharing this keto wing recipe I went down a buffalo chicken wings history rabbit hole. You can too by checking out this article sharing the history of buffalo wings.

If you aren’t up for that kind of commitment, I don’t blame you so I will summarize what I think to be the most interesting part of the Buffalo Wing history. The genius idea of slathering these delicious wings into a spicy sauce was born in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York.

The story says that Teressa Bellissimo was just messing with some leftovers when she discovered this delicious combo and put it on the menu the next day.

They took it even further when they took this idea on the road with a hot sauce salesman named Dick Winger.

If that doesn’t pique your interest, you may not be interested in learning the history of the chicken wing, so let’s get back to the easy keto buffalo wing recipe.

How Do You Make Buffalo Wings More Spicy?

You can add more heat to buffalo wings by adding chili powder or cayenne powder to the buffalo wing sauce. Another great way to increase the heat is to add in your favorite hot sauce, this will make the sauce spicier.
