- The best way to prevent overcooking is to check the center of the patties for doneness throughout the cooking process.
- When cooking frozen hamburger patties in the air fryer it is best to lay patties in a single layer.
- Season frozen patties with a sprinkling of garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
- Set the temperature to 350 degrees f and allow the burgers to cook for 10 minutes before flipping.

Air Fryer Burger Recipe for Fresh Ground Beef
This recipe is for one-pound of hamburgers split into four but you can double the seasoning to make burgers with 2 pounds of ground beef. Although depending on the size of your air fryer you may have to cook in batches but the following seasoning mixture works well for fresh meat.
When cooking fresh burgers, mix one pound of ground beef with the following seasoning:
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl with ground beef and then form patties.
Set formed patties on wax paper, aluminum foil, or parchment paper in an airtight container. Refrigerate until you are ready to use the air fryer to make hamburgers.
Fresh patties will cook much faster than frozen ones. For one pound of ground beef, you will make 4 patties, each about 1/2″ thick. Cook for 5 minutes, flip, and then cook for another 5 minutes.
If you plan on adding cheese, add the slice one to two minutes before the ten-minute mark to allow it to melt.
Easy Air Fryer Burger Recipe Variations
There are many seasoning options for cooking burgers in the air fryer. My personal preference for seasoning juicy air fryer burgers is a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. This mixture works well for beef burgers, turkey burgers, and hamburger steaks.
Sprinkle the top with your favorite seasoning, but keep in mind that just a pinch of each can go a long way.
Try some of these hamburger seasoning ideas.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Liquid Smoke
- Lawrey’s Seasoning
Another way to switch things up and treat yourself to a unique burger experience is to change out the buns. Use lettuce wraps for a low-carb hamburger or try brioche buns to resemble your favorite burger restaurant.
I like a toasted bun with a garlic butter spread. The easiest possible method to do this is to add some butter and garlic to the buns and then pop them into the air fryer for a couple of minutes.
You don’t need the garlic to toast buns but this adds a nice flavor.
Add Your Favorite Toppings
Pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions are some of my favorite toppings for burgers. I also like to add a variety of condiments like mayo, ketchup, and mustard. Sometimes I get a craving for something different, thankfully there are many options to choose from if you want to switch things up a bit.
- Jalapenos
- BBQ Sauce
- Mustard
- Hot Sauce
- Red Onion
- Onion Rings
Add Your Favorite Cheeses
- Cheddar Cheese
- American Cheese
- Pepper jack Cheese
- Provolone
- Swiss
Best Side Dishes to Serve with Hamburgers
Air Fryer Potato Wedges since your air fryer is busy, make these crispy baked potato wedges in the oven. French fries are always a good pairing idea for a juicy burger.
You could also make fries from sweet potatoes but if you are looking to save time, pick up a bag of pre-made sweet potato fries. Be sure to check the nutritional information when making your selection if you are following a low-carb diet, this may not be the best side dish for you.
One of my favorite low-carb side dishes to enjoy with these hamburgers are these Low Carb Mozzarella Sticks.
If you want a low-carb chip to enjoy with your hamburger, this crispy air fryer zucchini chips recipe is perfect.
Both are great options to serve with these juicy air fryer hamburgers.
Answers to Common Questions
In an attempt to be helpful to anyone interested in learning how to use an air fryer to cook burgers, I have consulted Google for frequently asked questions. These questions are common things that people typed into google when trying to learn how to make burgers in an air fryer.
Can you Put Raw Burgers in the Air Fryer?
Yes and this question reminds me of that old trick that I fell for more than I care to remember. I don’t remember the exact way I first heard this done but there are many variations that have all worked on me at one point or another.
First, have someone spell the word roast three times. Then have them say the word roast five times. Next, ask them “what do you put in a toaster?”
More often than not they will answer toast instead of the obvious answer, which is bread.
Of course, you can put raw burgers in there, but maybe most people are wondering if they can reheat burgers in the air fryer. The answer to that is also yes. I find the air fryer to be the best way to reheat things.
If you have an air fryer basket this may not be the case because that can be difficult for some things but I have the Power XL Air Fryer and you can put almost anything in there!
How Long Should I Air Fry a Burger
The amount of time it takes to air fry a hamburger depends on many factors such as the thickness of the patties, whether it is fresh or frozen, and type of meat.
Some people air fry burgers at higher temperatures for less time. I have found that cooking at the temperature of 350 degrees allows the center to cook better than cooking burgers at 400 degrees F or higher.
Make sure your burgers reach a safe internal temperature by using a meat thermometer. Keep in mind that the internal temperature should be 160°
Do You Need to Flip Burgers in Air Fryer?
Yes! It’s a good idea to flip the burger patty halfway through the cooking time.
How Do I Air Fry My hamburgers?
The time will vary depending on the type of meat you use in the air fryer. Fresh will not take as long to cook as frozen burgers. When cooking frozen hamburger patties they will require about twice the time, depending on the thickness.
Remember to flip the patty over halfway through cooking and check the center before calling it done.
